Lauren West was an Artist-in-Residence at Tripoli Gallery in Spring 2023. She made a new body of work that is opening September 29, titled Down Here. The artist makes paintings that are representational and also surreal. They capture situations and scenes that may or may not have happened outside of the artist's mind and that is the joy of the conundrum for the viewer who is left to decide for themselves.

The gallery sought to create an all female exhibition shining a light on the historical artworks of artists who have been and still are a major part of a contemporary dialogue. The goal was to express the gallerists' interest in this subject which he feels extremely connected to, without ever identifying upfront that all of the artists are female identifying.
